Request to Parents to Limit Sideline Instructions during Football Games

Dear Parents,

We hope this message finds you and your families well. As the football season is underway, we wanted to take a moment to address an important matter that can significantly impact our children's experience on the field.

Firstly, we want to express our gratitude for your dedicated support and enthusiasm while cheering on our young players. Your presence and encouragement provide a tremendous boost to the morale of the entire team. However, we kindly request your cooperation in refraining from giving instructions or coaching from the sidelines during the games.

While we understand and appreciate that parents are the biggest fans of their children, excessive sideline instructions can inadvertently create a counterproductive environment. Here are a few reasons why we encourage limiting sideline instructions:

1. Encouraging independence and decision-making: By allowing the players to think and react independently on the field, we help foster their abilities to make quick decisions, improving their overall game understanding and intelligence.

2. Listening to their coaches: Our coaches work diligently to provide comprehensive instructions and strategies to enhance our players' skills and development. When parents provide differing instructions, it can confuse the players and disrupt the team dynamics.

3. Reducing pressure and stress: Our primary goal is to create a positive, enjoyable experience for the children. Sideline instructions from multiple sources can increase pressure, cause frustration, and hinder their ability to maximize their potential.

Instead, we encourage you to support the team by demonstrating good sportsmanship, cheering, and applauding their efforts. Please take this opportunity to enjoy the game as spectators, allowing the kids and their coaches to focus on playing the game. We want to Build a supportive environment where our young players can thrive and learn from their experiences.

We firmly believe that by working together to establish a sideline environment that prioritizes positivity and respect, we can greatly enhance our children's football experience and contribute to their overall development as both athletes and individuals.
All our coaches are amazing volunteers who have decided to help their club and community so please be aware they are not full time paid employees.

Thank you for your unwavering support and commitment to our young athletes. Should you have any concerns or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to us. One of Broadford’s main ambitions is to create memorable and positive football memories for our children.

If you have any concern with how your child is being coached then please contact the coach directly but can we ask that you allow 48 hours after a match has finished before contacting the coach with an issue.

Be a parent not a coach

Sincerely,

Paul Keegan
